Shuffle
Shuffle is a limited variable series of 16 intaglio prints that incorporate monotype. Each print is unique, yet they all form a network with one another through the repetition of shared forms, the process by which they are printed, and their display as a set that can be rearranged in multiple configurations.
After a time of density and darkness in my work, this print series allowed fresh perspectives and luminosity to enter into it. With the intention of re-sequencing and shifting the fields of activity within my work, I created individual plates using multiple print processes such as embossing, engraving, sugar lift, aquatint, and collograph to capture a particular expressive quality inherent to my painting and drawing practice.
With each run through the press, multiple sheets of paper purposely positioned only partially on an inked plate captured bits and slices of the field. The addition of fibers and other natural materials interspersed in between the prints such as threads and egg shells during the printing process further disrupt the activity. Slowly with multiple runs through the press, colorful raised and embossed layers accumulated that could not be entirely predicted ahead of time echoing ideas of weaving and realigning with the intention of moving forward.
